Frequently Asked Questions

How does the FDD help freelance designers?

After running our famous Agency Directory for over a decade, we've learned the importance of gathering information and sharing it with the community in an accessible way. Additionally, the internet brings the world together, but can make it hard to find your neighbour. The FDD is designed to bring Toronto and GTA designers and businesses together to encourage local collaboration and growth.

Who are you and what are you doing here?

The Freelance Designer Directory is another project by the Toronto Design Directory. The TDD creates resources and events for designers and creatives in Toronto, to help grow careers and promote Toronto talent to the world. The FDD is a part of that mission.

Can any creative join the freelancer directory?

This directory is intended to advertise graphic designers and similar creatives. That can include but isn't limited to: advertising art directors, motion designers and animators, product and UX designers, letterers and typographers, print and marketing designers, and others. The best way to tell if you're a fit for this directory is to see if your primary services are listed in the "areas of expertise" as those are the skills and jobs we're focused on. This directory doesn't list interior designers since that's a different skill set.

What are the requirements for getting listed?

▻ Be a current freelancer actively taking on clients and jobs (not just preparing to, but ready to book right now).

▻ Have an updated and ready to go portfolio website and completed LinkedIn profile.

▻ Be based either in the City of Toronto or the surrounding Greater Toronto Area or Hamilton.

Why is this limited to the Toronto, Hamilton, and the Greater Toronto Area?

The Toronto Design Directory (this website) is focused on the graphic design community in Toronto. However, we understand that many people work remotely or commute to and from these cities, and those in different parts of the Greater Toronto Area still work together and seek each other out. Facilitating these connections and jobs just made sense in 2025.

What other opportunities are there to promote my work?

Members can add their projects to the Project Showcase to expand on their work and explain their creative thinking. These projects appear in your profile as additional examples of your work. Profiles are randomly selected for promotion on Toronto Design Directory platforms (email, social). We're always working on ways to make the FDD a better resource for our members .
